FARM Africa works in partnership with communities, government, local and international organizations, and the private sector to innovate, learn and share best practices for maximum impact of our projects. 

Purpose of the Role:

The post holder will be responsible for the human resources function ensuring complete compliance with organizational policies, procedures and guidelines aligned with the labour law and other relevant laws of the country.   

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in updating personnel manual including all policies, procedures and guidelines according to any changes in internal policy and Ethiopian law.
  • Ensure all staff are fully aware and recognise changes in personnel manual, when necessary by written acknowledgement, providing training when necessary
  • Assist in administering recruitment, induction and appraisal processes to ensure these are done properly and on time liaising internally and with consultants/agencies as appropriate and agreed (review job descriptions and position outlines, advertise, receive and review applications, arrange interviews, obtain preliminary information, score tests if appropriate)
  • Update all recruitment information and file following completion
  • Ensure that all employment contracts are issued, renewed and terminated on time (before staff commence employment) and as required
  • Develop and upgrade the induction package and ensure that all new staff go through the induction
  • Maintain complete and confidential personnel files
  •  Dealing with day to day staff request (annual leave, medical bill, etc.)
  • Plan and track annual and other leave to ensure it is only taken in accordance with agreed allowances, properly authorized and agreed, tracked and planned and ensuring that it is not all taken at the end of the year or (for management staff) during budgeting and/ or yearend procedures.
  • Record and follow up the utilization of annual leaves, sick leaves, and others as per HR Manual on a regular bases;
  • Support HRM in implementing, monitoring and recording the performance appraisal system in accordance with FA procedure
  • Refer any and all HR related legal matters to the management, and liaise with the legal advisor as agreed
  • Maintain correct, full and up-to-date employee files and records on all HR related maters
  • Support and stand in for the Executive Assistant when s/he is away from duty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Qualification and Experience:

  • BA degree in  HR Management /Business management or other relevant fields
  • Three years of HR experience in INGOs/NGOS
  • Strong understanding of labour law
  • Experience in contract management
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

  • Working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
  • Proven communication and organization skill
  • Good team player and strong interpersonal skill
  • Hard working and highly motivated
  • Open and transparent whilst maintaining strict confidentiality at all times as required
  • Reliable; quick learner; refers problems and faces challenges immediately

Desirable's:

  • Certificate or diploma in project management
