We are looking for Human-Centered Design (HCD) Consultant to help build the capacity of our Innovation Team through training in both formal theories and practical applications. The consultant will be responsible in leading the team in the HCD processes resulting in fully-formed interventions for priority SRH areas of in school adolescents, 15-19 years old.

We are looking for Human-Centered Design (HCD) Consultant to help build the capacity of our Innovation Team through training in both formal theories and practical applications. The consultant will be responsible in leading the team in the HCD processes resulting in fully-formed interventions for priority SRH areas of in school adolescents, 15-19 years old.

Your contribution

  • Train Innovation team; young designers and program people on HCD through formal training and concepts.
  • Build team’s capacity in design research and in identifying and articulating insights as well as How Might We Questions.  
  • Lead Innovation team through hands-on practice implementing HCD from insight gathering through prototyping of existing insights from A360 and new ideas.
  • Promote creativity and open ideas within the team.
  • Lead the team in an ideation process using the insights of A360 and the new insights to be gathered as a springboard.
  • Co-develop ideas, select and further refine in to concepts and tools for testing.
  • Based on feedback attained, translate the design concepts into tangible and testable artefacts/items and test them.
  • Based on feedback from adolescents adjust directions and further develop concepts with the support of young designers.
  • Lead the creative design process to build and refine prototypes and test them with in school adolescents.
  • Securing relevant and constructive feedback from the adolescents and refine.
  • Develop ways to evaluate and get feedback to further develop.
  • Support the team to develop a piloting plan for selected interventions.
  • Guide the team throughout the piloting phase of the interventions and tools.
  • Help prepare the design branding and logo of project. 
  • Help the team to define mode of delivery.
  • Help prepare a flexible program monitoring and evaluation systems appropriate for the level of prototype.e
  • Help prepare internal, regional and donor sharing documents and reports on the program’s process.

What are we looking for? The basics

  • BA Degree in design, public health, business development, social sciences or relevant field.
  • At least four years of experience practicing human-centered design.
  • Experience in Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health (AYSRH) tailored HCD process in Africa/East African region is desired.

  • Experience working in public health, NGOs and/or the social sector.
  • Experience in leading non-designers in a human centered design process and have passion in building local skills and team development.
  • English language speaker.
  • Able to begin work immediately.
  • Flexibility is highly desired.
  • Capacity Builder: experience in building institution, local technical, management and leadership capacity.
  • Collaborative manager: able to inspire a shared vision for the country staff.
  • A systems thinker: able to develop system-wide solutions, connecting several ideas into a larger and coherent solution.
  • A strategist and an innovator: creative, innovative and a strategic thinker. Have a strong interest in private-sector approaches to development and a proven ability to produce results.
